Employers, staff and students have come together at the annual Coaching and Innovation Symposium to explore innovative coaching projects created by Southampton Solent University sports students.

Now in its fifth year, the event celebrates the achievements of the University’s Coaching Innovation Programme (CIP), which encourages sports students to develop their own coaching projects to improve lives and address social issues within the wider community.

SUP for cancer

On Sunday 5 June, Southampton Water Activities Centre (SWAC) will be hosting SUP for Cancer, a stand up paddleboard event for paddlers of every level to raise money for Cancer Research.

You can choose either the 'Short', 'Long' or 'Enduro' course depending on your equipment and experience.

Aaron Phipps

Team Solent Sharks wheelchair rugby player and Paralympics 2012 star, Aaron Phipps, is currently attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

To prepare for the gruelling challenge, Southampton Solent University staff and applied sports science students have put him through his paces carrying out intense cardiovascular training sessions.

Sky Ride Southampton is a big, celebratory cycling free event taking place on Sunday 12 June from 11am to 3pm where lots of cyclists of all ages and abilities can ride safely together on a traffic free route.

It has a real festival atmosphere, a fun day out for families and friends to enjoy, with loads to do both on and off a bike. Previous Sky Ride Southampton events have seen more than 12,000 cycling fans flood the street.

Motivational Interviewing Network Workshop (Level 3)
Thursday 2 June, 1-4.30pm. This course is for staff who work directly with clients towards behaviour change. Participants on this course should have already attended Motivational Interviewing (MI) courses Levels 1 and 2.
