Street Sport

Street Sport gives youngsters aged 8-19 years the chance to take part in alternative sports including BMX, skateboarding, free-style gymnastics, street dance, inflatable football pitch, street hockey and much more!

The project is delivered in areas of Southampton that have limited sport facilities. Young people choose which activities they want to do. Sessions currently run in Thornhill, Millbrook, St Marys and the city centre.

Southampton School Games

Solent Sport Schools Team look after the Southampton School Gamesexciting four-level sporting competitions for school children in Southampton. The Southampton School Games project offers a wide range of sports and physical activity opportunities to the young people of Southampton and Southampton Solent University students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience by supporting and running a key part of the schools’ sporting programmes.

Hampshire Games

Since 1998, approximately 15,000 young people from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have had the chance to be involved in the Hampshire Games. For many it is their first taste of a high profile large scale sporting event. The Hampshire Games are not solely about the development of players, but additionally provide an ideal opportunity for young people to take their first steps on the officiating ladder or gain experience as sports volunteers.

For those who participate to the competition, it will hopefully lead to a sustained exit route into Southampton based clubs. Read more about the Hampshire Games. 


Sportivate is part of the ‘Play’ strand of Sport England’s London 2012 mass participation legacy programme: ‘Places, People, Play’. It is a new National Lottery funded initiative that started in April 2011 and will run until March 2015.

Sportivate is a £56 million Lottery programme that gives 14-25 year olds access to six-week courses in a range of sports including judo, golf, tennis, wakeboarding, athletics, and parkour or free running. Read more about Sportivate.
